Sossusvlei
Home of the Red Dunes
In the heart of the Namib, one of the world's oldest deserts, towering apricot and crimson dunes rise above silent white clay pans. Sossusvlei is a place of extraordinary light, vast silence and some of the clearest night skies on earth, best explored at dawn, from the air and from the comfort of a remote desert lodge.
The Ancient Namib
Towering Dunes
Some of the world's highest sand dunes rise here, sculpted by the wind into shifting shades of orange and red. Climb Big Daddy or Dune 45 to watch the sunrise across a sea of sand.
Deadvlei
Blackened camel thorn trees, centuries old, stand on a cracked white clay pan beneath red dunes, creating one of Africa's most photographed landscapes.
A UNESCO Desert
The Namib Sand Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a fog-fed desert where remarkable plants and animals have adapted to life with almost no rain.
